GOING, GOING GONE… TO NEW AUCTION HOME
16 December 2011
CJM Asset Management’s new 25,000sq ft premises in Scunthorpe has been put straight to work, with a first auction held just days after the keys were handed over.
Having acquired the fine art and antiques auction house business from Brown And Co in Brigg, the Scunthorpe firm has taken the opportunity to locate its offices and industrial equipment storage and sale facilities, together with the new addition, under one roof, rather than three.
Ginetta House is that location, a property built in 2006 by Hunt Group, which acquired the land that was once home to sports car manufacturing, a history that inspired the name of the building.
Charles Atkinson, a partner at PPH Commercial in Scunthorpe handled the deal, bringing the building that was initially used by Balfour Beatty as a secure document storage facility for three-and-a-half years, back into use.
Mr Atkinson said: “This has got to be one of the premier auction houses anywhere. CJM has brought together everything that it does in one place, which has clear benefits for the business.”
PPH is now marketing the former offices in Arkwright Way, and the 12,000 sq ft industrial warehouse in Brigg Road, with Clark Weightman handling Old Courts Road, Brigg, the former home of the antiques and fine art.
Paul Cooper, director at CJM, said there had been positive feedback from those involved in the first auction, held on Saturday, December 3.
He said: “The first antiques sale in the centre attracted a lot of interest from fellow auctioneers and the antiques trade, as well as from members of the public.
“The comments we received were all complimentary, although the reaction of the webcast expert – who spends all his time travelling round the country’s auction rooms – was particularly special.”
An industrial auction was taking place there today.
An antique and modern furnishings sale is due to take place on Saturday, January 21.
